Studies on Serum Protein and Lippprotein in the Field of Pediatrics

Abstract
For the determinations of serum protein and lipoprotein partitions in age differences and under different feeding conditions including those of maternal and cord blood(newborn infant) sera, a total of 146 subjects in 8 different groups were studied by means of Spinco Model R Paper Electrophoresis System. The following results were thus obtained.
1. Slightly decreasing tendency of the total protein tivas observed in the under 6 months old breast-fed group than that of the cord blood group but without any significant difference, hower-er it was significantly increased in the 6-24 months old breast-fed group than in the under 6 months old breast-fed group. Inspite of sho~virag slightly decreased value of the total protein in the early childhood group and slightly increa~ed value of it in the later childhood group, there were nor observed any significant differences between age groups o~-er the age of 24 m~~nths. It was lower in the cow¢¥s milk-fed orphan in rant group than in the same age breast-fed group with the significant difference being shown especially in the group of 6-24 months old.
2. The albumin value vas slightly increased in the breast-fed infant group than in the cordblood grouf+ without any significant difference and thereafter it was remarkably decreased in the groups of age over 2 year old than in the breast-fed infant group. It was remarkably decreased in the cow¢¥s milk-fed orphan infant group than in the breast-fed infant group.
3. There were observed no differences of ai globulin values between groups of each ages and the breast-f~~d infant and the cow¢¥s milk-fed orphan infant groups. The cr.,- and ~3-globulin values were significantly increased in the under 6 months old group than in the cord blood group, but thereafter there were observed no differences between each. age group including groups of the breast-fed and the cow¢¥s milk-fed orphan infants. The r-globulin value was remarkably decreased in the group of under 6 months old breast-fed infant than in the cord blood group and then a gradually incr~:asing tendency was observed by the advancement of age. It was significantly increased in the cow¢¥s milk-fed orphan infant group than in the breast-fed infant group.
4. The lipoprotein ratio was remarkably decreased in t;1e cord blood group. And then a gradually increasing tendency was seen by the advancement t+f age with the exception of its decreasing tendency in the later childhood group. Even though a somewhat decreasing tendency was revealed in the group of the under 2 year old orphan than in the breast-fed of the same age, there were no significant differences between them.
5. The albumin value was markedly decreased in th~~ maternal group as compared with the cord blood group; A/G ratio was below 1.0 in the maternal group. However ~7/a lipoprotein ratio was remarkably increased in the maternal group..
